A woman from Mumbai has claimed that the 6-month-old girl found abandoned in the Janmabhoomi Express is her daughter. She says her husband took her daughter with him without informing anyone, and kept her for the last one month before abandoning her. She says an on-going dispute between her husband and her and other relatives led him to commit such an act.

On Wednesday morning, railway police found the child in S1 coach of the Udhampur-Ahmedabad Janmabhoomi Express. When the sweepers were cleaning the coach during its halt at the Kalupur station, they found the little girl and informed railway police, who sent her to Civil Hospital for a check-up. She was then sent to Mahipatram Rupram Ashram near Raipur Darwaza. After learning about the baby through media reports, a woman from Mumbai called the Ashram on Friday and said it is her daughter. After taking the call, Ashram authorities informed the railway police about the claim.

"We have told the authorities not to hand over the girl to anyone without informing us. We have asked the woman to come with proofs and photographs on Saturday. She said her husband abducted her baby a month ago following a family feud," said PP Pirozia, inspector, Rly police.
