The Election Commission today issued a notice to Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa for allegedly announcing sops for a particular community ahead of the bypolls for two assembly seats.

Taking cognizance of media reports, the commission sent a notice to Yeddyurappa for "violation" of the model code and asked him to reply by Monday, EC sources said.

Reports said the chief minister had given assurances on inclusion of the 'Adi' sub-caste of Lingayat community in the OBC list.

Bypolls for Gulbarga South and Kadur assembly seats are scheduled to be held on September 13.
