DMK to take up AIADMK's 'atrocities','dictatorship' with people

Slamming the ruling AIADMK over the way it was treating the party in the assembly, opposition DMK on Thursday decided to "take up with the people" the former's "atrocities" and "dictatorship."

As a first step, party chief M Karunanidhi will address a public rally at Kolathur, the constituency of his son and former Deputy Chief Minister MK Stalin, a DMK statement here said.

The meeting, titled "Travails of democracy in Assembly," will be held on April 25.

On a day when the assembly adopted a resolution for a 10-day suspension of four DMK MLAs for unruly behaviour, the party said its members were not allowed to make any remarks or raise people's issues.

"MLAs led by Stalin met the party president (Karunanidhi) and informed of the dictatorial approach of AIADMK ministers," the release said.

Further, Karunanidhi and his family were targeted but the DMK members were unable to clarify and the "Chief Minister (Jayalalithaa) seems to enjoy these," it said.

Such things were not in keeping with the democratic nature and ethos of the House, the release said.

Karunanidhi told the legislators they have to take up the matter with people. "He said it was the only right thing to do," it said.

Ealrier, the party had boycotted the Assembly for a week opposing AIADMK not allow it take up issues.
