A strong demand to implement the recommendations of the Justice Majithia wageboards for working journalists and non-journalists was made in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Raising the matter during Zero Hour, Manish Tewari of Congress said a large number of journalists and non-journalists were agitating across the country demanding speedy implementation of the wagebaord recommendations that were made three months back.

"If we really want to empower journalists, serious cognisance should be taken of their demands and the wageboards' recommendations should be implemented forthwith with effect from January 2008," he said.

He noted that the wageboards to review the salaries of journalists and non-journalists was set up in 2007.

Mediapersons from across the country held a rally in front of the Labour Ministry here today to protest the "delay" in implementation of wageboards' recommendations for newspapers and news agencies' employees.
