Delhi HC orders police to protect girl The Delhi high court today directed the Delhi police to provide protection to a girl who alleged that her parents wanted to marry her against her wishes.

"Being a citizen of this country and having attained the age of majority, she is at liberty to live in the place where she wants and to marry a person of her choice. She cannot be forced, even by her parents, against her wishes for anything," said justice Shiv Narayan Dhingra.

The court directed the police to take immediate action in case she files any complaint against her parents for any threat and said that, "The police is directed to give her protection if any coercive mode is adopted by her parents against her or she is harassed by them".

Filing a petition before the court, Priyanka Mukherjee, a resident of Rohini, said she was not dependent on her parents who wanted to marry her against her wishes for which she had to leave her house.

She claimed that she had complained to the Station House Officer(SHO) of the area and now seeks the court's intervention.
