A 12-year-old girl, who was denied admission by a government school on the ground that she had not studied in a regular school upto class V, has found a ray of hope with the Delhi High Court directing the NCT government to ensure her admission in class VI within a week.

Justice Manmohan, in a recent order, directed the Directorate of Education to give admitRuby in class VI in the Government Senior Secondary School at Jahangirpuri.

In a petition, Ruby's counsel Ashok Agarwal submitted that the girl could not study in a regular school due to financial constraints. He contended that denial of admission to herviolates the fundamental right to education.

Seeking a direction to the education department, the counsel argued that the government on the one hand was talking about the right to have free education but on the other it was denying it to poor students. Appearing for Delhi Government, its counsel Najmi Waziri assured the court that the girl's case would be considered at the earliest.
