Delhi BJP wants roll back of hike in CNG prices, to stage demonstration

BJP today demanded immediate roll back of the hike in CNG prices, saying the increase will hit hard the common man who travels by bus and auto rickshaw.
    
Delhi BJP chief Vijendra Gupta, slamming the Centre as well as the city government, said the hike in CNG will make life "miserable" for majority of the people in Delhi who are already burdened with spiraling prices of food items.
    
Gupta said BJP will stage a demonstration near Parliament tomorrow to protest the "steep hike" in the CNG prices and submit a memorandum to prime minister Manmohan Singh.
    
Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) had yesterday hiked CNG prices in the city by over 25%. CNG rates in Delhi has gone up by Rs5.60 per kg -- from Rs21.90 to Rs27.50 per kg. The new rates came into effect from midnight last night.
    
The hike was necessitated because of the Centre's decision to raise natural gas prices from Rs3.2 per cubic metre to Rs7.5 per cubic metre.
    
Government has already indicated that there may be 35 to 40% fare hike for auto rickshaws and taxis in the national capital following increase in CNG prices.
