Nine laptops, web cameras, four speakers and laptop bags were stolen from More mega store located near Manjalpur at Vadodara in the wee hours of Monday. According to CCTV camera recordings, two persons committed the theft after the store was closed on Sunday. They are suspected to have been hiding inside the store.
Narendrasinh Mandtiya, a store supervisor, came for duty at 8 am on Monday and during routine procedures found nine laptops missing. On further checks, he found that some web cameras, four speakers and some laptop bags were also missing. He immediately informed the manager and the security in-charge. After primary investigations, the mall officials informed police about the theft.
An FSL team was also called for investigations The mall remained closed for customers till 2 pm. When police scanned CCTV camera recordings, they found two persons, covering their faces with towels, trying to unlock the doors of the mall around 4.10 am, when the mall was closed. But how they escaped from the mall premises after that was not traced by the CCTV. PI ZA Thakor said, "We suspect that the burglars entered the mall along with other customers on Sunday night. Then they hid somewhere in the mall.
As the mall closed after cleaning at 3.45am, they went into action. But how they managed to get out of the mall is not clear. We suspect that the duo went out when the mall opened at 7 am on Monday for cleaning. The thieves were cautious as they used to cover their faces with towels whenever they came in the range of CCTV cameras. Moreover, they didn't touch the door where alarms were installed."
The police suspect involvement of some mall staff or security men in the theft. The thieves seemed to be familiar with the nooks and corners of the mall, which enabled them to hide themselves.
