Culture ministry employee held for rape

A Hindi translator working with the culture ministry was arrested on Wednesday after he allegedly raped his 21-year-old domestic. “Accused Rajinder Yadav was caught while trying to flee the city,” DCP (South) HGS Dhaliwal said.

Yadav, a native of Mau, allegedly raped the maid on Tuesday night at his Government Officers Colony home in Sarojini Nagar market.

“The maid had been working at Yadav’s house for two years. On Tuesday evening, his wife left for her parental home after which Yadav was alone. He called the maid to clean utensils and while she was working, dragged her to the bedroom where he raped her. He then threatened her saying he would lodge a complaint of theft and get her killed,” a police officer said.

The maid was allowed to go home at 8.30 pm. She narrated the whole incident to her husband, who took her to the police. Medical examination at the Safdarjung Hospital confirmed rape.
