Congress today attacked the CPI(M) accusing it of resorting to 'Stalinist tactics for stalling the proceedings in Lok Sabha over Trinamool Congress member Sudip Bandopadhyay's controversial remarks.

"CPI(M) has been displaying classical Stalinist tactics in the House since yesterday even after the chair giving a ruling. This is unprecedented...once the chair gives a ruling, it is for every member to respect that. By not doing so, CPI(M) is trampling on democracy," party spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters outside Parliament.

Tewari said that his party's stand is clear on the issue that all the members on the floor of the house should use Parliamentary language.

"This responsibility is not just of one member. When the leader of opposition speaks, then he should also exercise restraint on his language. If you expect others to respect you, you should respect others also," he added.

Tewari's comments came in response to questions about the controversial remarks made by nominated Rajya Sabha member and Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar and Bandopadhyay, which raised the hackles of BJP and CPM respectively leading to adjournments of both the house as the opposition insisted on apologies.

Commenting on the protest by national sports federation chiefs against the sports ministry decision to limit their tenures, Tewari said, "there is a Chinese wall between administration of Sports and politics. If at all any constructive steps have been taken to improve transparency in the administration of sports, that is welcome."

"But along with it, this is also to be seen that when our national sports federations affiliate with international federations and some issues come up, they should also to be kept in mind," Tewari added.

On caste-based census, he said that discussions on it could be held provided the House functions.
