Court sentences tutor to 10-yr imprisonment for raping minor

A local court sentenced a private tutor to 10 year imprisonment after convicting him of raping an eight-year old girl in Balasore district in 2006.
 
Additional district judge Samir Kumar Roy yeterday sentenced Ajay Kumar Das (34) to 10 year's rigorous imprisonment for raping the minor student at her house in Sahadevkhunta locality in Balasore.
 
The court further imposed fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict and additional one-year imprisonment in case of non-payment.
 
According to the prosecution, the 8-year-old was raped by Das, when her parents were away from home, on the evening of August three, 2006 and threatened her not to disclose the incident. As the terrified girl narrated the incident to her mother, a complaint was lodged at the local police station.
       
Das, a native of Olmara village under Raibania police station in the district, had rented a house in Sahadevkhunta area in Balasore headquarter town and engaged in private tuition.
