Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday accused ruling Congress party for misusing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and other institutions with an aim to corner their political opponents.

Naidu while addressing a news conference in Hyderabad slammed Congress party for using the CBI to tarnish the image of their political rivals.

"The government of India led by the Congress has been misusing the institutions of CBI, income tax department, enforcement directorate, CVC (Central Vigilance Commission) at times because they wanted to appoint a tainted man as CVC and also the institution of Governor in order to malign political opponents, corner them and also corner support for it, to keep its allies under control and also to win over the neutrals as and when necessary," said Naidu.

During the conference, Naidu also expressed his concern over China's plan to build three more dams on the River Brahmaputra.

Under a new energy development plan for 2015, the Chinese state council cabinet had recently agreed to construct these three new dams across the River Tsangpo, which later runs into India as the River Brahmaputra.

India is home to three major river systems — the Ganga, Brahmaputra and the Indus — which support 700 million people.

Naidu also said that the issue should be raised by the federal government.
