Notorious as the spot where many a violent communal clash has been witnessed, Shahpur area of the city turned into a battleground again, late on Tuesday night.

People from two communities came face-to-face and pelted stones at one another, in a fight that erupted over a minor accident. However, no casualties have been reported and no one has been hurt, cops said.

The Shahpur police told DNA that the clash began with an accident, in which a member of one community was beaten up by a person of another community in front of Sardarkunj society in the area.

In no time, news of the incident spread in Shahpur, and over a hundred people from both communities poured out into the streets, and began pelting stones.

"The situation is under control now, and we are looking for the people behind the clash. Trouble began when two young men collided with each other. While they were having a heated argument, a couple of people came to their rescue. However, the situation took a turn for the worse, and members of both communities began pelting stones at one another," said police inspector KP Rathod of Shahpur police station.

The police have identified at least five people responsible for the clash. However, no arrests have been made as yet, cops said.
