Chest experts from across the country to meet in Ahmedabad

Association of chest physicians of state has organised a conference on June 18 and 19 to discuss newly discovered faulty lifestyle induced pulmonary diseases.

The association of chest physicians of Gujarat has organised a two-day conference on June 18 and 19 in the city to discuss newly discovered faulty lifestyle induced pulmonary diseases and disorders including pulmonary embolism, sleep apnea, pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary fibrosis and inter tissual lung diseases. The experts would also discuss the rise in new types of asthma and new types of drug resistant TB cases.

Dr. Narendra Raval, president of the association (Gujarat), said, "The prime objective of the conference is to upgrade the information on newly discovered faulty life-style diseases, to understand their symptoms and devise new investigative and diagnostic methods which were till now not available in the state."

The two-day conference will have 40 lectures by various city based experts as well as special sessions taken by experts coming from New Delhi, Pune, and Mumbai. During the conference, three exhaustive workshops on new investigative methods including Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy, Spirometry, and Polysonography would be held.

Dr. Rajesh Solanki, vice-president of the association, said, "The cases of sleep apnea are found to be linked with obesity and short-neck physiological structure. Sudden unavoidable naps, snoring and sleep disorders are recently noticed among adolescent kids aged 12- 20 and is also observed to be rising in adults aged around 30 to 45 in the state. Many pulmonologists are not yet aware of clear symptoms and methods of treatments. Hence the association has focused on the theme of newly discovered trends of life-style induced diseases. "Exchange of information on the advanced treatments investigative methods is the prime highlight of the annual conference," Solanki said.

Dr. Kiran Rade, World Health Organisation (WHO) consultant from New Delhi will brief the doctors on the current status of MDR TB services in India at the conference. Dr. Zrir Udwadia, noted pulmonologist from Mumbai, will update the doctors on inter-tissual lung disease (ILD) in India and how it can be treated today. More than 500 doctors from various parts of the state and the country will attend the conference.
