The transgender community in Chennai organised a cultural show with the aim of sensitising the masses about their life and problems.

This unique event was held under the auspices of SWAM on Tuesday.

Over 200 transgenders, including sex workers, participated in this unique event.

On the occasion, a movie depicting the life of a queer was also screened to highlight the problems faced by them.

"Once the society starts realising that they are also normal human beings, so that the stigma discrimination will come down gradually," said Sheela.

One of the members of SWAM noted that there are a lot of misconceptions as far as their community is concerned.

"Our community is not given any, what would you call rights or anything. We are treated like we were third persons, like slaves or not a human at all. Right now, the government has come, now the DMK government has come.  We want that if section 377 law can happen in Delhi, why not in South India," said Seenu. (ANI)
