More than 1,000 people Saturday held a candle light demonstration on the sands of Marina here in support of the fast by social activist Anna Hazare in Delhi demanding a strong and effective Lokpal Bill.
As the police did not allow a rally, the protesters from all walks of life who gathered on the beach road moved over to sands and held the lighted candles.
Several students from private schools were also seen in their uniforms holding the candles.
Hazare's supporters held placards calling for a corruption free India.
Chennai is one of the few cities where an indefinite fast is on since August 17 in support of Hazare's campaign with activists of 'India against corruption' holding the protest on the Lattice Bridge road here.
