Centre worried over swapping of jailed Maoists with WB officer

The Centre is worried over the alleged swapping of jailed women Maoists with a West Bengal police officer saying the incident could lead to setting of a bad precedent.
   
A senior official said the Central government was not taken into confidence before the Left Front government decided not to oppose the bail plea of 15 women Naxal cadres in a local court.
   
After his abduction, top Maoist leader Kishenji had demanded the release of the women in return of the safe release of inspector Atindranath Dutta.

Though it was a Jhargram court which ordered the release of the naxals, the Centre has not taken the episode kindly saying it could lead to setting of a bad precedent.

"The incident will encourage the Maoists to kidnap government officials for the release of their jailed cadres," the official said.
