Cellphone shop partner robbed of Rs26.50 lakh in Madurai

A two-member motorcycle borne gang attacked and robbed a cellphone shop partner of Rs 26.50 lakh today while he was on his way to board a Chennai-bound bus to purchase mobile phones, police said.

The gang attacked him with a knife at Arapalayam and pushed him down before decamping with the cash, they said.

Police said the man was a partner in a mobile phone shop at Meenakshi Bazar where they allegedly sold cellphones with and without warranty. The man used to frequently travel to Chennai to procure mobile phones, they said.

Police are also looking into whether there was any dispute over profit between him and his partner and the robbery was only a ploy to cheat the partner.
