The CBI today claimed to have busted a petrol adulteration racket allegedly run in collusion with government officials in the national capital and booked three persons in this connection.

In a joint search operation with officials of oil companies at Geeta Colony, Badarpur and Nangloi, the agency recovered large quantities of several petroleum products, storage tanks, chemicals such as bleaching powder, suction pumps and other materials.

The recovery of the products indicate that the premises are being used for adulteration purposes and sale thereof, a CBI spokesperson said.

The agency registered four cases of criminal conspiracy under the Essential Commodities act againt Pravin Kumar of Lokra Trading company, Babu Lal Gupta and Vinod Garg, he said.

"A reliable information was received that Petroleum products are being unauthorisedly stored for the purpose of adulteration of different products at various locations in Delhi. After initial verification, CBI organised a joint surprise check along with officers of Petroleum companies yesterday," the spokesperson said.

He said officers of oil companies collected samples of various petroleum goods.

"The presence of bleaching powder and other chemicals at these locations indicate it was being used to discolor the PDS Kerosene oil.
