A local court has rejected the bail application of a Canadian  national of Chinese origin, Xie Jing Feng, who was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for possession of a psychotropic substance, methamphetamine, in November last year.

The bureau had also, in a joint operation, unearthed a clandestine laboratory manufacturing methamphetamine, a prohibited substance under the Narcotics Act, near Vadodara on November 21, 2008. The bureau officials had arrested three persons of foreign origin with 1.5 kg of methamphetamine in powder form, which proved a link to unearthing of the laboratory. The bureau also recovered 30 litres of semi-liquid methamphetamine from the laboratory.

In the joint operation, conducted by the NCB, Ahmedabad zonal unit and Mumbai unit,  officials had set up a watch on the Vadodara- Mumbai highway after a tip-off. They intercepted an Innova car with Maharashtra RTO registration on suspicion. During interrogation, a Canadian  national of Chinese origin, Xie Jing Feng alias Richard, 50, and his two Malaysian associates, Ravindra Karpaya and Gunashekharan Pillay, were found in possession of approximately 1.5 kg of methamphetamine.

During interrogation, it was revealed that they were trafficking the drug to Mumbai. They learn that a full-fledged laboratory manufacturing the prohibited drug existed at Mokshi near Savli.

Officials raided the laboratory at Mokshi and recovered 30 litres of methamphetamine in a semi-solid state.
