Cable operator shot dead by militants in Sopore town of north Kashmir

The motive behind the killing could not be ascertained immediately, police said but added that the operator had survived three earlier attacks by militants.

A cable operator was shot dead by militants in Sopore town of north Kashmir, police said today.

Unidentified militants barged into the house of Ashiq Hussain Khan at New Colony area of Sopore, 55 kms from here, at around 10 pm last night when he was taking dinner and sprayed bullets on him, police said.

He said Khan, owner of J K Cable Network, was rushed to S K Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura in Srinagar but he succumbed to his injuries.

The motive behind the killing could not be ascertained immediately, police said but added that the operator had survived three earlier attacks by militants.

A hunt has been launched to nab the militants responsible for the killing of the cable operator. No group has owned responsibility for the act.
