BSP MLA's family defends him in attempted rape case

The family of BSP MLA, who has been suspended from the primary membership of the party for his alleged involvement in an attempted rape case, have termed the entire episode a bid by their rivals to settle scores.

Intakhab Rana, wife of BSP MLA Shahnawaz Rana, has alleged that some political leaders had hatched a conspiracy to defame her husband.

Intakhab, who is also district panchayat chairperson, criticised the raids in her panchayat office in the district as illegal.

Seven persons, including two relatives of BSP MP Kadir Rana -- Shazaib and Saddam-- and two personnel security officer of the BSP MLA, have been arrested for allegedly abducting and attempting to rape two Delhi girls on June 21.

Shahnawaz Rana was also been suspended from the primary membership of the BSP by UP Chief Minister Mayawati on June 24.
