A top Border Security Force (BSF) officer is under police scanner for the killing of a teenager on the outskirts of Srinagar by a BSF jawan on February 5.

Other jawans, who were part of the convoy involved in the killing of Zahid Farooq, 17, revealed the officer’s name during interrogation.
Police have already arrested constable Lakhwinder Kumar of 68 battalion, BSF, after an internal inquiry by the force found him prima facie responsible. However, eyewitness and Zahid’s family claimed a top officer ordered the shooting.

Police refused comment. “We have no information,” Srinagar SSP Javid Riyaz said.

Sources said police were likely to summon the officer for interrogation, so that a charge sheet could be prepared. So far, 12 BSF jawans part of the convoy have been questioned.

BSF personnel shot Zahid on February 5 after some youths jeered at them at Kralsangri-Brain in Nishat area of Srinagar.
