Exam pressure took its toll on another young life when the body of a class IX student, Shehzad Ghanchi was found on the Sabarmati riverbank on Friday morning.

The child was a student of FD high school in Juhapura. Ghanchi had gone missing from his home in Sankalitnagar in Juhapura on Tuesday. The body was spotted by one Chandresh, an autorickshaw driver, on the western side of the Ambedkar Bridge, who informed the police control room and soon Ellisbridge police arrived at the spot.

A complaint of accidental death has been registered in the matter. Sources said that it appeared that the boy had committed suicide. Sources said that an answer sheet was tucked in the pocket of Ghanchi's clothes.  Sources said that the boy had appeared for his math exams on Tuesday.  He was, however, depressed over the fact that he did not fare well in the exams.

Sources said that Ghanchi had told his cousin Ayaz that he had not fared well in the exams. Ayaz had asked him to go home and not worry about it. A missing complaint was later registered with the Vejalpur police station when Ghanchi failed to reach home. Sources close to the development said that the boy was also in depression because of family matters.

“His mother had re-married after his father’s death and he was staying with his uncle. This may have added to his depression and suicide.”
