Rubbishing corruption charges levelled by Congress in Bihar, BJP today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to explain their "silence" over scams involving senior party leaders and chief ministers.

"Be it the corruption in the Commonwealth Games, 2G spectrum deal and Adarsh housing society in Mumbai, the prime minister, Sonia and Rahul are maintaining conspicuous silence," BJP spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad told a press conference here.

Names of several senior Congress leaders, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, his predecessors Vilasrao Deshmukh and S K Shinde and their relatives have cropped up in the housing scam, he said, adding these leaders preferred to remain silent over the issue during the foundation day function of the AICC in Delhi yesterday.

"We had expected that Rahul during his day's visit to Bihar today will break his silence over the issue and explain to the people about these scams, but unfortunately it did not not happen and the Amethi MP rather indulged in hit-and-run citing corruption in execution of schemes," he said.

Dismissing Rahul's corruption charge against the Nitish Kumar government as a "blatant lie", he said BJP had earlier thought that the Congress leader was making false charges because of wrong information being given to him by his speech writers.

"But it has turned out to be wrong as a person being projected as future prime minister is making false allegation and uttering blatant lies about the development done here," he said.

Referring to Gandhi's assertion of trying to build "a new and strong India", Prasad asked if it would be possible for a person to achieve such a dream "on the foundation of corruption."

According to a CAG report, the 2G spectrum deal involved more than Rs 1.70 lakh crore, while the CWG scam runs into over Rs70,000 crore, Prasad alleged and suggested Gandhi to first set his own house into order before levelling charges against others.

On Congress leaders targeting the RSS during the AICC conclave, the BJP leader said it was "aimed at communalising the elections in Bihar."

"RSS is a purely cultural and nationalist organisation and it has a long history of contributions to the society and nation," he said and castigated the Congress for giving patronage to leaders like RJD supremo Lalu Prasad and his LJP counterpart Ram Vilas Paswan who had earlier termed SIMI as "a cultural organisation."
