BJP will launch nationwide protests against the Congress-led UPA government's alleged blackmailing of political opponents through CBI.
BJP president Nitin Gadkari told reporters here that the protests would be held on May 12 infront of CBI offices.
He said that although all the Opposition parties are "harassed and blackmailed" by UPA government through CBI, some parties lack courage to challenge the Central agency.
Citing what he claimed various instances of CBI's use against political opponents, Gadkari said the probe agency has been converted into "Congress Bureau of Investigation" and used as a weapon to silence voices against government.
He alleged that CBI has been used to cover up or white wash offences against Congress and other UPA leaders.
"It has been used as a tool to pressurise vulnerable Opposition leaders particularly those belonging to BJP, SP and RJD."
Gadkari said Gujarat was paying the price for voting BJP into power for three consecutive terms.
"CBI is misused in Gujarat against BJP.
The UPA government has taken extraordinary interest to entrust the case of encounter killings in Gujarat to CBI even after the
state filed chargesheets against several senior police officers," he said.
Pointing out to Sohrabuddin encounter case, the BJP leader said that he was earlier accused of spreading terror and was arrested and remanded to police custody in 1995.
"As many as 24 AK-56 rifles, 27 hand grenades, 5,250 cartridges and 81 magazines were recovered from the well in the fields belonging to Sohrabuddin," Gadkari said.
He said that there are several cases pending against Sohrabuddin in different states and he was associated with
Dawood and Latif gangs.
Gadkari said Gujarat CID had progressed steadily in this case and has chargesheeted 13 accused, including IPS officers.
"The UPA government, under pressure from NGOs and activists took up the case of an anti-national and a criminal like Sohrabuddin," he alleged.
The BJP chief said after Gujarat police filed the chargesheets, the CBI entered the picture.
"Four points were identified as failure by Gujarat police in this case and it was quoted as the reason to hand over the case to CBI. But after January 12, 2010 when the case was handed over to CBI, it has made no progress till date on those very four points," Gadkari claimed.
