"It seems that after a very successful nation-wide strike against price rise and revival of the non-Congress opposition parties, Congress is disturbed and worried about its future."
Hence, it is engaging in a selective but malicious and baseless campaign against the RSS," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.
Singh had reportedly stated in Indore earlier today that RSS could be involved in terror activities, forcing the BJP to come to the defence of the Sangh fountainhead.
"This is a diversionary tactic to deflect attention from the issue of price rise. We warn the Congress to stop this nonsense or they will have to face the music," he said.
The senior leader stated that even the worst critics of RSS never made such statements and "this should stop".
"This is an insult to patriotism," he added.
Reports about links of some suspects in the Mecca Masjid
and Ajmer blasts to the RSS or its affiliates had the BJP and
the Sangh Parivar worried. Javadekar maintained that all such
allegations were false.
"RSS is the largest nationalist force in the country. Though the CBI has said no senior RSS leader is being investigated, Digvijay Singh is continuing the tirade," Javadekar said.
Interestingly, as an opposition party, BJP has always been critical of CBI's functioning, often accusing it of being biased and acting as the "Congress Bureau of Investigation" to make political parties like RJD, SP and BSP fall in line and support the government.
To a question about BJP's "new-found faith" in CBI, Javadekar said one should have some belief in the system and institutions.
The Rajya Sabha member reiterated the party stand that it was against all forms of terrorism and that it had no religion.
He maintained that while punishment given to those found guilty was not being carried out (a reference to Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru), those who are innocent are being castigated.
Top brass of the RSS and BJP has been engaged in mutual
discussions to deal with the issue after names of some Sangh
functionaries reportedly cropped up in investigations. There
are apprehensions that the involvement of a few may malign the
whole organisation, despite the RSS not preaching "Hindu
terror".
