The BJP activists, mostly north Indians, today protested against Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi's remarks on migration at Azad Maidan here by wearing black ribbons and shouting slogans.
Demanding apology from Rahul, BJP Mumbai president Raj Purohit who led the protest said that if Rahul goes around the streets of Mumbai, he would find that north Indians were engaged in essential services.
He said that lack of development in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar was prompting people to migrate to other states for work.
Meanwhile, NCP also today took objection to Rahul Gandhi's remarks saying that such comments were insulting.
"People from Uttar Pradesh come to Maharashtra to earn their livelihood and not beg. Such statements are insulting and should not have been made," senior party leader and rajya sabha MP Govindrao Adik said adding political parties should refrain from making such comments.
In a speech at Phulpur yesterday, Rahul Gandhi had asked the youth there for how long would they go on begging (for jobs) in Maharashtra and Punjab.
