BJP flag issue smacks of ill motives: Digvijay Singh

Congress general secretary and party's Assam in-charge Digvijay Singh today said the BJP's decision to hoist the national flag in J&K was controversial and smacks of "ill motives".

"On the occasion of the Republic day we should hoist the national flag but the BJP's decision smacks of ill motives and is controversial," Singh told a Congress rally here today.

He said the country should maintain communal harmony at any cost and the government will not allow anyone to "to take advantage of the situation and create disturbance".

Speaking on the occasion Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi said his government was seeking mandate for the third time in row with the twin plant of development and peace.

"There has been all round development and peace and we are taking initiatives to hold talks with the underground outfits including the ULFA and NDFB", he said.

The chief minister stressed on the slew of measures taken by the government to ease the unemployment problem and usher in development.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhubaneswar Kalita and senior ministers also spoke in the rally.
