The CBI on Wednesday arrested Bishnaram Bishnoi, main accused in the Bhanwari Devi abduction and murder case from Pune district. CBI officials also claimed that they have found Bhanwari Devi’s mortal remains near Jodhpur.
With this, the investigating agency claims to have joined almost all the dots in the mystery. Bishnaram, leader of the gang which allegedly killed Bhanwari and disposed of her body near Jaloda village, had been absconding since Bhanwari went missing in September.
The development follows the arrest of Bishnaram’s close aide Kailash Jakhar on Tuesday night. Jakhar was arrested on the basis of information furnished by Bishnaram’s brother Om Prakash, who was arrested five days ago. Sources said Om Prakash’s arrest was a breakthrough for the CBI, which barricaded the highway and caught Jakhar while he was trying to flee to Nagaur.
During questioning, Jakhar admitted to have taken possession of Bhanwari’s body and disposed her remains in the Canal area near Jaloda village, around 100 kilometers from Jodhpur. He also disclosed Bishnaram’s location in Pune district. “He (Bishnaram) has admitted to having burnt her body and we will now take him for verification of the spot,” the sources said.
On Sahiram Bishnoi’s directions, Jakhar had picked up Bhanwari from Sohan Lal Bishnoi and Shahabuddin after they abducted her from Bilara on September 1, sources in the police said. After the arrests of Bishnaram and Jakhar, and identification of the spot where Bhanwari’s body was disposed, the CBI will be able to reply to the Rajasthan high court, where the habeas corpus filed by Bhanwari’s husband Amarchand is listed for next hearing on January 10.
