R Balakrishna yearns to return home but is snubbed by SK Nataraj, who says he is unable to assure the jawan of a safe homecoming.
There’s no end to the woes of Kargil hero, subedar R Balakrishna, who is under threat from water mafia in Horamavu. Making things worse for the Madras Engineer Group and Centre (MEG & Centre) jawan was mayor SK Nataraj, who on Monday threw up his hands and expressed his inability to protect Balakrishna from Rajanna, the husband of Horamavu corporator Tejaswini.
Balakrishna, who took on the water mafia, is taking shelter in his office at MEG & Centre, after being assaulted by the supporters of Rajanna, who allegedly threatened to kill him if he returned home.
Balakrishna sought the mayor’s interference for the redressal of his woes. “Subedar Balakrishna has beaten up Rajanna’s brother Satish. Rajanna is ready for a compromise with the subedar but only after giving him a thrashing. I tried my best to pacify Rajanna, but in vain. I am helpless now,” said Nagaraj.
“Rajanna said that he will not allow the subedar enter Horamavu and told me not to interfere in the matter. He is ready to face any challenge in the matter. I told Rajanna not to be so serious on an issue as trivial as this, but he is not ready to listen to me,” said the mayor.
Subedar Balakrishna wanted to return home on Monday after celebrating the Independence Day on Sunday at the MEG & Centre. “I was supposed to meet Rajanna along with my senior offices to settle the matter peacefully. But the date got postponed as my seniors were busy,” said Balakrishna.
However, with support emerging from the civil society, the pressure is building up on Rajanna.
Member of Parliament Rajeev Chandrashekar, who took up Balakrishna’s issue, has assured safety to the subedar and his family. “There is nothing to worry as the matter has been discussed with the home ministry, the local MLA and the jurisdictional police. If Rajanna or his men try to harm the subedar, they will be definitely arrested,” said a staff from Chandrashekar’s office.
