Arjun's statement evidence of Centre's role in Anderson's exit: BJP

With former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Arjun Singh stating he had no locus standi in the fleeing of Union Carbide CEO Warren Anderson, BJP today said the role of the then Congress government at the Centre was now clear.

"Arjun Singh has said he did not have any locus standi in the matter. Will Congress now apologise for allowing Anderson to leave the country?" BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
   
He claimed there was "ample evidence" that an agreement had been reached by the then government at the Centre and the US that Anderson would be provided a safe passage out of India. But Congress was still insisting that the Centre had nothing to do with it.

"The nation wants an answer from Congress why it has deliberately misled the nation. It is now patently clear that a safe passage was given to Anderson by the Congress government," Prasad said.
    
BJP also took note of the proposed sanction of more than Rs900 crore by the Planning Commission for the victims of 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy.

"A request for Rs900-crore rehabilitation package for Bhopal gas victims had been made by Madhya Pradesh government in 2008 itself. We hope that whatever steps are to be taken will be done expeditiously and judiciously," he said.
