Roadside restaurants have also become a necessity for commuters and others who cannot find a suitable joint to eat in limited time.

The Public Health Supervisor (PHS) of Sarkhej ward conducted the surprise operation on the newly developed Sarkhej-Sanand road, which his now bustling with vehicles and commuters.

During the raid, officials found stale food stored in the cold storage of the restaurant. Officials also discovered that the restaurant is being run without any permission.

Health officials immediately destroyed the food and fined the owner Rs1,000 for not having a licence.

Similarly, PHS raided a famous restaurant called Hotel Sabar at Sarkhej circle. The hotel owner was fined Rs800 for maintaining a dirty kitchen. AMC also raided the nearby 'Hotel Milan', where they found stale food stored in open.

Without refrigeration, the smell of the food had spread all around. When confronted by the officials, the owner argued that the food was meant to be thrown away and not to be served to customers.

The officials didn't listen to his lame excuse. They destroyed the food immediately and fined the owner Rs1,000.

Health officials also taught a lesson to some pani-puri stalls, sugar cane juice vendors and fruit salad sellers at the Sarkhej circle.

They raided around 15 such vendors and fined them for unhygienic conditions, rotten vegetables and stale fruit salad that were being offered to the public.
