The parents of a martyr Arbeshankar Yadav will finally get their due some 2.5 years after the death of their son. For, the Supreme Court has dismissed an application by Yadav’s fiancée claiming the benefits given to martyr’s widow and other awards.

The fiancée apparently claimed the benefit with the help of fake documents. The benefits and other awards will soon have to be delivered to its actual benefactor -the parents of the martyr.

The high court on February 22, 2010 passed a verdict in favour of the petitioner Sushila Yadav, mother of Arbeshankar. Sushila approached the high court after she and her husband Raj realised that the Shaurya Chakra and prize money given to their son following his martyrdom was claimed by his fiancée, Sadhana Yadav.

The advocate for Sushila, Kishore Paul told DNA that Sadhana had used fake documents and with the help of some army officials managed to claim the benefits including the pension. Paul said that, Sadhana managed to issue fake marriage invitation card, photograph and affidavits of her neighbours to claim the prize money and other benefits available to the martyr.

When the Gujarat high court passed an order in favour of Sushila in February, 2010 Sadhana went to the Supreme Court on August 18, 2010. The apex court dismissed her application to claim the prize money.

Raj, the father of the martyr, told DNA that his son and Sadhana were engaged but not married. “He died before the marriage, and she had claimed the Shaurya Chakra award without even informing us,” Raj said.

The parents of the martyr came to know of the award and other benefits being claimed by Sadhana, when they contacted the army office to know the status of the benefits they are entitled to as parents of a martyr. Arbeshankar died in a gun battle with four terrorists in Jammu on January 14, 2008.
