With political parties and the Andhra Pradesh cabinet deeply divided on the proposal for creation of separate Telangana, the Centre today sought to cool tempers saying it wants to take "everyone on board", even as the State legislature was adjourned indefinitely following an uproar ove the issue.

The Centre also said there was no proposal to impose president's rule in the state or that chief minister K Rosaiah was stepping down. It said the Telangana issue would come up in Parliament before the State assembly adopts a resolution.

With over 130 MLAs, mostly those belonging to the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions opposing the creation of Telangana, there was uproar created by the remaining members who shouted slogans in favour of a "united" Andhra Pradesh.

Members from Telangana welcomed the idea of separate Telangana.

With both sides creating a din, the government tabled a motion for adjournment saying  conducting the house was not possible in a surcharged atmosphere at a time when a majority of MLAs have resigned. The council was also adjourned under similar cicumstances.

In New Delhi, law minister M Veerappa Moily said the government would like to address the concerns of people. "We want to take everybody on board," he told reporters.

Maintaining that there was no no need for anyone to act in panic, Moily said a "solution will be found".

He ruled out imposition of president's rule in Andhra Pradesh following violence over the Telangana issue, and said there was no truth in reports that Rosaiah had either been asked to quit or he was resigning.

Continuing their campaign against the division of Andhra Pradesh, MPs of coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema met finance minister and leader of the Lok Sabha Pranab Mukherjee for a second in four days, seeking a "clarification" on home minister P Chidambaram's statement on initiating the process of separate of Telangana.

"Mukherjee assured us that the resolution has to come from the State assembly. Till then, there cannot be a discussion of the issue in the Lok Sabha," senior MP from coastal Andhra KS Rao told reporters.

He said the MPs explained to Mukherjee that the situation was "very grave" and any delay in taking a decision would cause a "mental divide" in different areas.

The Congress also echoed Mukherjee's views when it said the Central government would take the next step only after the State assembly passes the resolution for Telangana. Then the party would support it, AICC spokesman Shakeel Ahmad
told reporters.

Meanwhile, Telugu Desam chief N Chandrababu Naidu, who has made a U-turn on the issue, accused the Centre of announcing a "shocking" decision on Telangana and said the onus now now lay with the Centre to find a solution.
