AMC cuts morning water supply to save for evening

The AMC may be providing water twice a day during the summer to city's residents. But, if residents are to be believed it is not of much help as there has not been substantial improvement in water supply.

This is becasue the civic body reduces the morning time for water supply to provide water in the evening. This effectively defeats the purpose of giving water twice a day.  Generally, the civic body supplies water for two hour during the morning.

But during summer, additional water is supplied for half an hour during the evening.However, residents in many areas have complained that the civic body's actual water supply is not substantial. "The water supply stops ten to fifteen minutes before the schedule time in the morning.  In the evening, the water supply is late by five to 10 minutes," said Varsha Patel, resident of Kiran Park in Vadaj.

This issue was also taken up by Congress members in the standing committee meeting last Friday. "In many areas,  the department stops the water supply before time in the morning. In the evening, the water that is given during the first 10 minutes is severely contaminated and hence cannot be used," said Hasankhan Pathan, a member of AMC's standing committee.

Moreover, the civic body lacks adequate number of water tanks.  This result in hardships for the poor.  "The ruling party should focus on providing basic facility such as water to people," said Pathan.  As per the data provided by civic body, the average water intake of the city is around 1,100 million litres per day (MLD) during summer compared to average intake of 950 MLD during winter.
