A youngster turned to stealing valuables of boys living as paying guests after losing his job a few months back. He stole 20 laptops, one Activa two-wheeler, digital cameras and three gas cylinders of the boys residing in the PG accommodation.

On Monday afternoon, JM Bharwad, senior police inspector of Satellite, who was on routine patrolling near Jodhpur cross roads, stopped a youngster riding an Activa. The bike  didn’t had a registration number on it. On being asked for the registration, the rider failed to produce the papers of ownership of the vehicle.

The youth was then brought to the Satellite police station, where he was identified as Samir Sojitra, 26, a resident of Payal flats near Goyal Plaza in Vastrapur. He hails from Paneli in Rajkot. Sojitra confessed to having stolen the Activa from Satellite area.  Further investigations revealed that he has stolen many such valuables from the rooms of the youth living in the  PG, located in Satellite and Vastrapur areas. Samir had acquired the keys of these PG residences.

Police have recovered seven laptops, three gas cylinders and one digital camera from his possession. Police also learnt that Sojitra used to sell the stolen laptops to Dinesh Pankade of Vastral.

Police also arrested Pankade for purchasing the stolen goods.
Since Sojitra used to live as a paying guest, he knew the common places where PG boys put their keys for other roommates. The places include electric meter, shoe rack or even shoes. After learning about a particular PG flat, he entered and acquired the keys. Sojitra then fled with whatever valuables he could lay his hands on.

Sojitra say he came to Ahmedabad two years back to study web designing, and got a job. However, he lost the job one and half years back. Since his family in Rajkot cannot afford to send money for expenses, he turned to burglary to make ends meet.
