The Ahmedabad traffic department is getting ready for the city's mega religious event, the Rath Yatra. The yatra is set to flag off on July 13.

As a part of the basic preparations for the yatra, the city traffic department has already written letters to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to repair the road through which the procession will pass and remove the dilapidated buildings that appear on the way of the yatra. "Few days back we wrote to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation requesting them to start repair works of the road and also paint various road signs on the yatra route," said RG Jadeja, ACP traffic police, Ahmedabad.

Moreover the police have also asked the AMC to list the dilapidated buildings and either remove or repair them at least 10 days prior to the event. "Apart from that we have also asked AMC to complete the pending road repair works at least a week before the yatra day," he said.

Confirming the development MM Anarwala, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) told DNA, "We have started the preparation for the mega event. As a part of the preparation we have asked the AMC to remove unwanted obstacles and vehicles from the road that is to be used for the Rath Yatra."

The sources from the traffic department said that the traffic police has started the preparation earnestly. The traffic cops will soon have a meeting with the officials of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to discuss further action plans for smooth and safe traffic movement on the day of mega event.
