The Crime Branch has arrested four members of an inter-state gang in connection with a credit card scam, and recovered 53 cloned credit cards from their possession.

According to official sources, the four persons were arrested from near Anjali crossroads. A total of 53 credit cards of various banks, including HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Citi, Union Bank of India, ABN Amro, SBI, HSBC and Standard Chartered, were recovered from them. Cops also found copies of PAN cards and other documents with them.

They were arrested after they failed to provide satisfactory answers about the credit cards. Four mobile phones were also seized. The four persons were identified as Amar More, 28, a native of Ratnagiri and a resident of Vadodara; Dilip alias Pappu Patel, 48, a resident of Anand; Prasant Rao, 24, a native of Narmada and a resident of Vejalpur; and Dalpatsinh Gohil, 34, a native of Gandhinagar and a resident of Ellisbridge.

Police said that More has studied hotel management and he was working in a hotel earlier, while Patel was an electrical contractor. Rao was studying in ITI, while the fourth accused Gohil was a rickshaw driver. According to police, the accused planned to use the credit cards for making purchases. The cards were found to be cloned after they were tested with the Electronic Data Capturing machine.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Patel had received the credit cards from Mumbai. He got in touch with More in a bid to sell the cards and to use them for making purchases, and also involved his two other friends in the scam. Police said that copies of identity proofs of credit card holders were also recovered from the accused. The cops said they are trying to identify the source of the credit cards and the other people involved in the scam.

The crime branch later lodged a complaint against the four under various sections of the IPC .
