A father-son duo might have never thought that their journey from London to Ahmedabad would end up in the Sardarnagar police station lock-up -- briefly. Soon after they landed at the city's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport, the London based Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) found themselves caught up in a chaotic situation at the immigration counters and lost their cool.

The duo, who were waiting in a long queue to get their immigration clearances done, were involved in a scuffle with fellow passengers. What started as a heated argument, turned out into a fight which involved cops as well as immigration officials. The squabble lasted for an hour — and the NRIs finally found themselves incarcerated inside the Sardarnagar police lock-up.

According to the cops, the father-son duo identified as Mukesh Goradia and Parth Goradia, were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including hurting to deter a public servant from doing his duty (332), insult with intent to provoke breach of peace (504) and uttering obscene words (294, B).

On Tuesday early morning five international flight arrived at one go. Immigration officials said between 3:10 am and 4:15am the immigration clearance area got jam-packed with nearly 1,000 passengers around. They were lined up at all the six immigration counters and in one line, the Goradias and a fellow passenger got into a heated argument.

"The passengers standing in the queue complained that the father-son duo broke the queue. This irked the passengers. The pair then began fighting with some immigration officials after they intervened in the matter," said NC Joshi, assistant commissioner of police, immigration.

According to the police, the father-son reportedly assaulted a police constable on duty at the airport when he tried to sort out the matter. According to airport officials who witnessed the incident, there was a complete mess at the airport followed by arrivals of five international flights at short intervals.

Police said the Goradias came to Ahmedabad to visit their relatives staying at Sola Road but have settled in London where they run a wine shop. They are originally from Vadodara. IB Rabari, the officer who handled the case, said the duo was released after being produced before the court.
