AG branch yet to change Army chief's date of birth in records

The Adjutant General's branch of the Army has not yet changed the date of birth of Gen VK Singh in its records as it is still waiting for the official copy of the order of the Supreme Court in this regard.

On February 10, Supreme Court had forced the Army chief to withdraw his petition on the age issue and asked him to maintain May 10, 1950 as his date of birth and not a year later, as contended by him.

The Adjutant General's Branch has not yet received the copy of the Supreme Court order and appropriate action will be taken once it is received, Army sources said in Delhi.

In the age row involving Gen V K Singh, the Adjutant General's Branch has maintained his date of birth as May 10, 1951 whereas the Military Secretary's branch shows it as a year earlier.

The Defence Ministry on two occasions has asked the Adjutant General's branch to change the date of birth to May 10, 1951 but it refused to do so on both the occasions.

The first order was given on July 21 and the second one was received by the Army on January 23.

In its January 23 order, the Defence Ministry had asked the Adjutant General's Branch to file a compliance report also but that has not yet been provided to it, sources said.

The Military Secretary's branch is also expected to issue a Retirement Warning Letter to the Army Chief in the next few days informing him that his retirement date is May 31, 2012.
