After a long wait of more than a year, the Detection of Crime Branch has finally nabbed Rajveer Gohil, the absconder assassin wanted for several murders. The police nabbed him from near Vasna Tol Naka on Sunday.

His arrest is considered to be a big one given the fact that he was trying to form his own gang in the city. The police had been looking for Gohil since February 2009 when he jumped parole. He had been given parole to attend a dental surgery.

The police feared that he was in the process of forming a gang to begin organised criminal activities like extortion and contract killings.

After jumping parole, Gohil killed his friend Divyang Vaghela over a minor dispute. Soon he absconded and had been missing since then. Son of a police official, Gohil was arrested with a country-made pistol and two live cartridges.

"He is a big catch and we are now investigating about the places where he hid and are also getting details about his gang members," assistant commissioner of police, detection of crime branch, Mayur Chavda told reporters. Police had feared that Gohil was trying to regroup his cronies to actively take up contract killings in the city. He had been absconding since killing Vaghela in October 2009. Divyang Vaghela, 32, a resident of New Prashant Park Society near Vastrapur railway crossing in Vejalpur  in October 2009.

Vaghela was allegedly shot in the head by Gohil.  On the day of the incident the victim received a phone call on his mobile. Vaghela then went to meet Gohil near Vastrapur Railway Station where the latter killed him.
