An abandoned police barrack built up in an area disputed and claimed by Arunachal Pradesh was demolished today by unidentified men in upper Assam's Sibsagar district.

A gang of about 20 miscreants, with black cloth tied around their faces and dressed in battle fatigue, swooped on the empty broken barrack, about 5km away from Charaipung police outpost, and broke it down early morning, officials said.

None was injured in the attack as the location is an isolated one and nobody was present in the barrack.

The involvement of encroachers is suspected, as militants would not be benefited from making attacks in the area lying along the inter-state border, officials said.
