886 applications received from unwilling land owners in Singur

Altogether 886 applications have been received by the Hooghly district administration from "unwilling" land-owners in Singur, officials said today.

A survey team from Alipore visited the Tata Motors plant site to assess the claims.

The West Bengal government had yesterday started the process of formal handover of land to the farmers by issuing a notice inviting applications for alternative plots of land.

District Magistrate Sripriya Rangarajan had issued the notice, asking the land-owners, whose names featured in the schedule prepared by the government in accordance with the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act 2011, to apply for alternative plots inside the project area.
