7 arrested for offering two-year-old as sacrifice in Chhattisgarh

Seven persons, including a tantrik couple, were arrested today for allegedly offering a two-year-old boy for sacrifice in Durg district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

"Tantrik Bhagirathi Yadav was arrested along with his wife and five others for allegedly offering a boy named Chirag for sacrifice in Ruabandha area of Bhilai city," Durg SP Amit Kumar said.

According to Kumar, Chirag's father Poshan Rajput, a labourer, had yesterday registered a missing report about his son with the police.

"While searching for the boy, we came to know that Chirag was spotted in the house of Yadav, who lived in the same locality," he said.

After questioning the tantrik, police learnt that Yadav had abducted the boy and offered him as a sacrifice, the officer said.

Chirag's body was found buried under an idol in Yadav's house, Kumar said adding that further investigations are on to find out the reason behind the sacrifice.
