Intensivists organised a seminar in the city with a view to take the latest knowledge and technology available in their field to the grassroots level. The seminar was attended by around 350 doctors of Gujarat and Rajasthan.

People are more demanding nowadays so doctors in big cities need to be updated with the latest technology available for treatment of critical illnesses. "We have organised the seminar to take the knowledge available in our field to small towns and create more awareness about critical care," said Dr Rajesh Mishra, intensivist, who organised the seminar in cooperation with HCG Medi-Surge Hospitals.

Dr Deepak Govil, consultant of the department of critical care, Artemis Health Institute, NCR Delhi, said that with changing lifestyles, problems of kidney, respiratory system and blood pressure are increasing and imparting knowledge and training doctors is the need of the hour.

He said that around 25% increase is seen in the number of critical care patients. Earlier, people were not aware of such diseases, so the number of cases was less, he said. "We want to take awareness and knowledge about literature and technology as well as recent medicines from the metros to the middle level," said Govil.

Dr Jose Chako, intensivist, said that kidney failure in ICU results because of acute bacterial or viral infection along with other reasons. The number of patients with kidney failure is more at any given moment compared to a decade ago. He said that patients with kidney failure could live longer because of the new inventions in the medical field and better life support they get as a result of that.
