Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is prepared to add one more feather in the city's cap. The edifice with 30 floors will have all ultra-modern amenities including diamond shaped restaurant, helipad, amphi-theater and park.

After providing unparallel growth to the city, To add beauty in Surat's development, SMC has decided to build 'Iconic Tower' at Kharwarnagar Junction near Udhna having of height of 100 meters and 30 floors. Two more towers (40 meter each) will be developed on both sides of the edifice, giving the entire project an unbelievable and ultra-modern look. The towers will be developed at 21000 sq ft of land at the junction under PPP model at an estimated cost of Rs500 crore.

The SMC is busy in preparing the design and blueprint of the plan. Once completed, the civic body will invite expression of interest from private bodies for developing the project. "As per DCR in revised plan of SUDA, buildings more than 40 meter height are not given permission in Surat. We did a presentation before the chief minister and he was impressed by our work. He immediately granted us oral permission to go ahead with the project," Aparna added.

"Tower will be highest in the state, while two adjoining buildings will be completely commercial ones. All 3 buildings will be designed keeping in mind city's Textile and Diamond business. The main building will have a Diamond-shaped restaurant on the 30th floor, made of fine reflective glass. This will add beauty to the tower, and also shine in the night like diamond," said municipal commissioner, S Aparna.

The main tower will have various public amenities like amphi-theater, art gallery, commercial centre, library, park, green space, walk-way, open air theater and recreation centre, fountains and parking for more than 500 vehicles. Besides this, it will also have helipad facility. "The reason we selected Kharwarnagar Junction because it is in the middle of all important routes. The BRTS routes of Sarthan-Dumas Resorts and Sachin-Udhnadarwaja will cross section from here, while Surat-Navsari highway also pass from this place. By 2011 more than 6 lakh people will pass from these routes and the building will get its share of attention," Aparna said.

The tower will be managed by SMC officials with help of police department. The income generated from the project will be used in further developing of BRTS project.
