Vastrapur police on Wednesday night reported three road accident cases. Two of these took place when people were celebrating India's victory over arch-rivals Pakistan. No casualties were reported but two people sustained injuries during the mishaps.
Police said that Sheetal Rai, a resident of Bodakdev, lodged a complaint with Vastrapur police stating that she was hit by a car driven by Richard Michael, a resident of Sarkhej, at around 11:30pm in front of The Grand Bhagwati Hotel on SG Highway.

The magnitude of the accident was so severe that Rai's car turned turtle. She and another person sustained injuries. She was admitted to Sal Hospital. Police say reckless driving led to the accident.

In another incident, a biker, Pranav Patel, hit a stationary police vehicle in front of Pride Hotel in Bodakdev. Cops said that Patel was drunk and was booked under Prohibition Act. Special Operations PI, Shaktisinh Parmar whose car was hit has lodged a complaint in this regard.

At Andhjan Mandal crossroads, police said that Jayanti N Acharya, who had halted at the traffic signal, was hit by a car from behind. Acharya sustained minor injuries but his bike was damaged badly.

Commenting on the spate of accidents on Wednesday, a Vastrapur police official said, "People had gone mad after India's victory. Most of the crucial traffic junctions were jammed for hours after people started celebrating on roads.”
