A 23-year-old woman from Chennai working in a software company was allegedly murdered by her husband, with whom she had tied the knot in a love marriage three years ago, in a resort in this hill station in Idukki District.

Police said they are on the lookout for 29-year-old Maheshkumar.

Shamila, who hails from West Mambalam area of Chennai, and her husband had arrived at this hill station two days ago on a sightseeing trip.

But after taking her around, Mahesh strangulated her with a shawl inside their resort room after inflicting deep wounds all over her body with a sharp razor and escaped, police said.

The woman's shocked relatives, including her aged mother and younger sister, arrived here this evening, police said.

They told police that the two were a happy couple.

The two had taken the room on October 6 and had gone sightseeing for two days.

Mahesh had told the resort employees on Sunday that they would be vacating the room the next day and asked them to keep the bill ready. He had also requested them to book tickets to Coimbatore and Chennai.

Late on Sunday night, the woman's cries were heard from the room, employees told police.

The murder came to light yesterday when Police was informed after the room remained locked from inside whole morning. A police team has left for Chennai for further investigation.
