17 houses damaged in fire in old Srinagar, no human casualty

At least 17 residential houses were damaged in a fire in Nowhatta area of old Srinagar city today, officials said.

No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident, they said.

The fire which broke out in a house at Iqbal Market in Nowhatta this morning quickly spread to adjacent tenements.

Fire tenders were rushed to the area and the blaze was put out, said officials, adding that the cause for the fire was yet to be ascertained.

The divisional administration Kashmir distributed 50 mattresses, 120 sleeping bags and carpets among the 21 affected families.
